Scene transcript and audio description

Night rain strikes a parked transport outside the closed gate. A driver presses and releases the horn. The guard booth is empty. On screen: “23 minutes until sunrise.”

Deren: Open the fucking door.

Deren: Gate Nine, this is Crematory Transport Seventeen. Six for dawn processing. Request immediate access.

Central: Remain with your vehicle.

Deren: We need the gate.

Central: Your arrival has been recorded.

Deren: Tell me that was a buckle.

Elias: Stay here.

Deren: Gladly.

A metal clasp falls inside the cargo compartment. Elias reacts, releases his seatbelt, opens the partition, and steps between the covered gurneys. He approaches a rail. The scene cuts before the discovery.

On screen: “Unburned. A gothic fantasy novel. Coming Soon. Read the opening. Enter Veyr.” A low resonance fades.

AI-generated promotional scenes and fictional character voices, adapted from the prologue, with original sound design. Stereo mix. The novel releases November 28, 2026.

BOOK ONE · UNBURNED

A city that burns its dead.
A clerk who checks
the numbers.

In Veyr, every body is supposed to burn before sunrise. Mara Venn balances the records afterwards.

When a widower asks for his wife’s missing ring, a discrepancy leads Mara back to a transport that arrived six years ago. Six bodies admitted. Only five burned.

A missing name. A sealed ward. A repair bill signed by her late husband. The closer she looks, the less she can trust the record.

A conspiracy, a dangerous alliance, and a slow-burning relationship. Unburned by Lionel M. Bailey releases November 28, 2026. Retailer and preorder links will be posted here when available.

BEGIN AT GATE NINE

Twenty-three minutes
until sunrise.

An excerpt from the prologue · Adult language

The dead were supposed to burn before sunrise.

Everyone knew that. Children learned it before they learned their letters: the Wall kept the living safe; the fire kept the dead that way. Elias had repeated it to his nephew with a spoonful of porridge balanced in front of the boy's mouth, and to a woman who had tried to follow her husband's gurney into a furnace. He had never found a kinder way to say it.

Tonight, they were going to be late.

“Open the fucking door.”

Deren struck the horn with the heel of his hand. Beyond the windshield, rain ran down the black steel of Gate Nine. A security lamp turned the water red. There was a booth to the left of the gate, illuminated and apparently empty, with a half-eaten sandwich on its counter.

The dashboard clock read 4:51. Sunrise was at 5:14.
